Chartered accountant named new president of WorkSafeNB

Gerard Adams of Riverview, N.B., has been appointed the new president and chief executive officer of WorkSafeNB. The appointment was announced by post-secondary education, training and labour minister Martine Coulombe.
"This appointment will ensure WorkSafeNB continues to have strong leadership in its role to promote a safe and healthy work environment to the workers and employers of New Brunswick," said Coulombe. "Mr. Adams brings a wealth of experience to the organization, and I am confident he, along with the board of directors, will administer and enforce the legislation efficiently and fairly."

Adams will begin his five-year term on Feb. 27. He is a well-respected chief executive and chartered accountant, with more than 25 years of senior executive experience in a diverse range of enterprises and industries in Atlantic Canada. Most recently, he was president and chief executive officer of the Credit Union Central of New Brunswick.

"Mr. Adams brings with him the leadership and experience required to lead our organization effectively," said Sharon Tucker, board chair of WorkSafeNB. "On behalf of the board of directors, we look forward to working with Mr. Adams for the next five years, and we thank the executive staff and employees at WorkSafeNB for their commitment and service during the recruitment process."

The appointment was made by the Crown corporation’s board of directors and approved by cabinet, in accordance with the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission Act. WorkSafeNB is also responsible for administering the Workers' Compensation Act, the Firefighters' Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Adams will succeed Douglas Stanley, who served as president and chief executive officer from 2000 to 2011.

"I thank Douglas Stanley for his dedication and contribution during his tenure as president and chief executive officer," Coulombe said.
