WINNIPEG (CP) — Work on a portion of Winnipeg's bus rapid transit line has ground to a temporary halt over concerns about power line safety.
Manitoba Hydro says it issued a stop-work order a week ago because park-and-ride facilities and the transit route were being built too close to transmission towers in a utility corridor.
The Crown corporation says it believes changes were made to the original plans and it's concerned for workers' safety and the integrity of the electrical system.
The utility says some issues have been resolved and it's continuing to work with the city and the contractor to clear up other matters.
The City of Winnipeg says it's currently experiencing temporary delays on two of 12 bus rapid-transit worksites.
A city spokesman says the delays are not expected to affect the project's timeline or budget.
