Stop-work order issued to window manufacturer

Company fined $15K by WorkSafeBC

Oasis Windows has been fined $15,374 by WorkSafeBC.

WorkSafeBC was conducting an inspection of this employer's manufacturing facility in Surrey, B.C. WorkSafeBC had become aware of an injury incident that had occurred at the workplace. One of the employer's workers had been operating a welding machine to frame sections of a window. The worker's hand was caught between the machine's actuator plate and alignment bar, and the worker sustained injuries.

WorkSafeBC inspected the machine and determined that it had not been fitted with guards for the base plate, the actuator plate, or the space between them since the incident occurred.

A stop-use order was issued.

The employer failed to ensure machinery was adequately safeguarded to prevent workers from accessing hazardous points of operation. This was a repeated and high-risk violation.
