Construction company fined $66K

Excavator came into contact with high-voltage electrical conduit

Jack Cewe Ltd. of Coquitlam, B.C. has been fined $65,712.

This firm was doing road construction work when its excavator contacted a buried, energized high-voltage electrical conduit.

WorkSafeBC determined that the firm failed to undertake excavation work according to the requirements of the utility service owner, and failed to ensure machinery was kept the minimum approach distance from exposed electrical conductors.

These were both repeated and high-risk violations.
