Nova Scotia landscaping firm received $20,000 in penalties

Creative sentencing includes safety presentations

Josh Lynch’s Contracting and Landscaping of North Sydney, N.S., has been fined $5,750 (inclusive of the victim fine surcharge). It is also required to donate $15,000 to the Minister’s Education Trust Fund.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred in 2016. Employees (including Josh Lynch himself) were working on scaffolding without fall protection equipment and were seriously injured when the scaffolding collapsed.

As part of creative sentencing, the contractor is required to complete two one-hour safety presentations.
