WINNIPEG (CP) — Manitoba is sending 13 trained firefighters and 50 water pumps to help battle the flames from wildfires in British Columbia's Interior.

The team is expected to leave Manitoba later this week.

The province is also deploying an air-attack officer to the Northwest Territories to assist with co-ordination of firefighting efforts in that region.

British Columbia officials say they are anticipating a lengthy wildfire season as hot, dry conditions persist in many parts of the province.

About 14,000 people have been displaced by more than 200 wildfires that have eaten through 400 square kilometres so far.

Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick have also sent firefighters and equipment to B.C.
