Manitoba hockey teams help share safe work message

SAFE Work Manitoba has partnered with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) to promote safety and health in the agricultural sector. A SAFE farms contest is running until the end of February.

"We are building on our success from last year's partnership with the MJHL," said Warren Preece, director of communications at the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB). "With the assistance of MJHL team volunteers, we once again are asking Manitobans to offer up their best farm safety tips."

Last year, more than 350 contest entries were received. The top suggestions were turned into tip cards that farmers and agricultural workers continue to reference.

"We are extremely pleased to once again join SAFE Work Manitoba in promoting farm safety in the communities where many of our players developed their love of the game and where many of our fans live and work," said Kim Davis, MJHL commissioner.

Teams participating include:

• Dauphin Kings
• Neepawa Natives
• OCN Blizzard (The Pas)
• Portage Terriers
• Selkirk Steelers
• Steinbach Pistons
• Swan Valley Stampeders
• Waywayseecappo Wolverines
• Winkler Flyers
• Virden Oil Capitals.

Once the contest closes, a winner will be chosen at random and all safety tips will be reviewed by experts from Workplace Safety and Health. The winner will receive a Macbook computer. The best tips will be published and added to the growing list of agricultural safety and health resources available at www.safemanitoba.com/farms.
