Aearo Technologies’ new CustomE-A-R will custom-fit earplugs for each individual employee in 15 minutes, according to the company. Certified CustomE-A-R technicians will mold, validate and calibrate the earplugs on site, using computerized fit validation and noise level calibration, the company says. The earplugs are made of soft, hypoallergenic polymer for extended comfort with a variety of hear-through control filters. CustomE-A-R comes in two package choices: Mini Pack, which includes enough supplies and CustomE-A-R products to fit 8 individuals, and Group Pack, which contains supplies and CustomE-A-R products for 24 individuals.

Can you hear me now?

The new VeriPRO test package provides safety managers and employees a way to ensure the effectiveness of hearing protection devices, according to VeriPRO maker Howard Leight by Sperian. Developed in collaboration with the House Ear Institute, the VeriPRO package includes software and an optimized headset used to measure real-world attenuation of unmodified earplugs. Through a three-part process, VeriPRO measures the effectiveness of an employee’s earplug fit over a range of frequencies. The resulting Personal Attenuation Rating (PAR) indicates the actual protection an employee gets from his or her earplug, Sperian says. It says VeriPRO is compatible with any earplug and offers two test protocols: the Complete Check, which runs through five frequencies for PAR determination, and Quick Check, a one-frequency test of earplug fit.

Redesigned earplugs provide better fit and comfort

Howard Leight says it redesigned and updated its AirSoft multiple-use earplugs. Introduced nearly 30 years ago, AirSoft was the first earplug to use an internal air pocket. The company says its updated AirSoft includes new material, new design features and new engineering technologies that provide better fit, comfort and performance. The new design incorporates a series of patented, noise-blocking fins within the pocket. As the air pocket compresses in the ear canal, these fins interweave to create a noise-blocking barrier optimized to the wearer’s ear canal. The company replaced the original PVC material in AirSoft with a more user-friendly TPE which also increases comfort, especially during long-time wear, says the company. AirSoft is available in corded and uncorded versions, and at NRR 27, AirSoft provides the industry’s highest attenuation available in a multiple-use earplug, says the company. Arc Noise Protection

The E-A-R ARC Plug is designed to protect workers from the noise that results from arc flash that can cause hearing damage and concussive disorientation. It also has Hear-Through filter technology that allows the wearer to hear sounds clearly around them such as conversation, traffic, radio, etc. while receiving protection instantly in the case of an impulse noise like an arc blast. A second side (red) of the new ARC Plug offers protection against constant high-level noise (NRR 22dB).
