Worker wearing harness but not connected to lifeline

B.C. roofing company fined $20,000 for violation

Rainstorm Roofing of Coquitlam has been fined $20,000. WorkSafeBC observed two of this firm's workers performing maintenance activities on a two-storey house.

One of the workers was caulking an 8:12 sloped section of the roof. The worker was wearing a fall protection harness but was not connected to a lifeline.

The other worker was cleaning debris from the gutters on another section of the roof without the benefit of a personal fall protection system. No other form of fall protection was in place.

The workers were exposed to a risk of falling 3.4 metres to 5.8 metres (11 feet to 19 feet). The firm's failure to ensure the use of fall protection was a repeated and high-risk violation.
