Following the recommendations from the Dean Panel review, Ontario has appointed the members of an interim health and safety prevention council. Former labour deputy minister Paavo Kivisto heads this team.

Nova Scotia wants to improve safety of highway workers and is seeking input from stakeholders. The proposed changes will be included in the Occupational Safety General Regulations.

Ontario will launch a heightened enforcement focus related to hazards in shipping and receiving areas, including loading docks, as part of an ongoing campaign to increase safety in workplaces, according to a statement from the Ministry of Labour.

A new Workplace Safety and Health regulation providing protection for workers against psychological harassment takes effect February 1st, 2011, Manitoba Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard announced today.

"Many employers already have policies in place to address these issues and we have provided resources to help others develop a policy for their workplaces," said Howard. "This proactive measure builds on efforts to protect workers from harassment based on age, race or gender and ensure that workplaces are respectful and safe for everyone."
